Back in 2011, when bringing to your attention Tropics' (aka Uk-based Chris Ward) first outstanding LP Parodia Flare, I said that alongside his outstanding chill-wave producing talent, we could somehow guess the great singer in him. Hidden behind beautiful digital effects at the time, his voice is now fully uncovered through Home & Consonance, a new superb EP he released last month on Five Easy Pieces Records.

V4YS LP Review - Titanics - Soft Treasure

NY state duo Titanics (aka Mark Lombardo & Derek Rodgers) recently released Soft Treasure, a debut self-produced LP blending sweet shades of chillwave, downtempo and synth-pop.

If the duo has a sure knack for designing ethereal sound atmospheres and soothing melodies, what make their sound special is the interesting "80's pop-like" electric guitar input.

A delicate project you should dig on their Bandcamp page !

Originaire d'Albany dans l'Etat de New York, le duo Titanics (aka Mark Lombardo & Derek Rodgers) vient de publier Soft Treasure, un premier album auto-produit mêlant habilement des influences chillwave, downtempo et synth-pop. Le groupe y démontre un talent certain pour créer des atmosphères sonores à la fois rêveuses et mélancoliques. Son originalité tient aussi à l'habile utilisation d'un son de guitare électrique très pop 80's, pari parfois risqué qui fonctionne bien ici.

Essaimant régulièrement les perles au fil de sa page Soundcloud, le producteur Suédois Summer Heart remet une fois de plus le couvert avec un nouveau maxi intitulé Hit Me Up Again. 
On y retrouve sa reçette favorite, faite de douces mélodies de guitare électrique, de nappes de synthés planantes et de vocals mélancoliques, le tout sur une rythmique mid-tempo. Streaming des deux titres ci-dessus.

V4YS Album Review - Toro Y Moi - Anything In Return (Carpark Records)

In two years' time, US producer and singer Toro Y Moi's (aka Chaz Bundick) has established himself as a leading figure of the chillwave/pop scene.

Having left his native South-Carolina to settle in California, homeland of the chillwave sound, he actually soaked up different musical influences from the Golden State, which had him embrace wider musical horizons for his new LP Anything In Return. 

Out next week on Carpark Records, the album is a delightful journey blending deep house and abstract beats atmospheres to Toro Y Moi's now-famous poetic indie touch. Benefiting from a rich orchestration, Anything In Return also offers his best role to date to Chaz' sublime androgynous voice. Fall for it, heavy rotation guaranteed !

En l'espace de deux ans Toro Y Moi's (aka Chaz Bundick) s'est affirmé comme une valeur sure d'une scène chillwave/pop en pleine effervescence. Alors qu'il a quitté sa Caroline du Sud natale pour s'installer dans le berceau du chillwave, la Californie, Chaz y a paradoxalement puisé d'autres influences pour écrire son troisième album, Anything In Return, qui sort la semaine prochaine sur Carpark Records. 
Voyage exquis entre deep house, abstract beats et sa signature indie/pop pleine de poésie, le disque accorde aussi une place de choix à la sublime voix androgyne d'un producteur/chanteur qui travaille énormément la seconde corde de son arc artistique. Laissez-vous séduire, mode "repeat" garanti ensuite !

Toro Y Moi - So Many Details (extract from forthcoming new LP)

Next January North-Carolina-based Toro Y Moi (aka Chaz Bundick) will release a much awaited third LP titled Anything In Return.

An early fan of his pop/chillwave sound, I was quite happy to discover today a first extract of this new album. So Many Details is a sweet electro/pop song displaying his producing talent as well as his delicate voice.

En janvier prochain, le producteur de Caroline du Nord Toro Y Moi (aka Chaz Bundick) sortira un troisième album attendu intitulé Anything In Return. Fan de la première heure de son univers pop/chillwave, j'ai découvert aujourd'hui avec bonheur ce premier extrait. Jolie chanson electro/pop, So Many Details laisse la part belle à sa voix délictate pleine de sensibilité.

About A Feeling, the first LP from Malmo-based Summer Heart (aka David Alexander) is an outstanding indie/chillwave production that should delight anyone enjoying the likes of Toro Y Moi, Baths, Tropics, or Schlohmo ad a musical genre currently in full bloom.

Built on melancholic slo-mo beats, radiant electric guitar melodies and ethereal vocals benefiting from superb digital effects, its soothing atmosphere simply is addictive.
Add to that the brillant remix of US duo Working Drugs' beautiful song Third Wave also recently dropped by the young man and I'm sure you'll start following him closely !
