VIbes4YourSoul guest mixtape for Beam Me Up Disco

Here is a mixtape I just made for Montreal-based Beam Me Up Disco collective. Groove, beats, nudisco & more...enjoy!

Dorothy Morrison - Rain (V4YS The Deuce Edit)

Rain is a 70's disco/gospel anthem, released in 1972 by Dorothy Morrison.

Featuring in the legendary David Mancuso's The Loft compilation series, this track actually came to my attention while watching HBO TV show The Deuce, the latest gem from my favorite screenplay writer, David Simon (The Wire, Treme, Show Me a Hero...), who co-authored it with George Pelecanos.

A deep dive into the seedy side of Nyc's Times Square area in the 70's, the show gathers a fascinating collection of characters, supported (as usual with David Simon's productions) by a splendid soundtrack. A highly recommended watch if you haven't already!

Here's my "housy" take of the song.

Liquid Gold - Could Be Tonight (V4YS Play With Matches Edit)

Released in 1982 by UK band Liquid Gold, "Could Be Tonight" is one of these forgotten disco tunes that make life more funky.

Here is my regrooved version of it.

V4YS Mixes#38 - (nu)Disco Made Me Do It

Oldies, newbies, edits...let's dance.

V4YS Mixes#36 - Cali Groove Tape

A groove tape to welcome the spring, lots of classics, lots of edits/reworks, a few newbies...and a laid-back atmosphere reflecting my feeling after coming back from a few days in San Francisco.

 California dreamin' !

David Bowie - Young Americans (V4YS All Night Edit)

Released in 1975, the Young Americans album was recorded in the US, where David Bowie was living at the time under the heavy influence of philly soul and early disco sounds.
On this record David surrounded himself with musicians from these scenes, most notably Puerto-Rican Guitarist Carlos Alomar, as well as Luther Vandross, who features on various side vocals.

If Fame is, well, the most...famous track of the LP (and David first true hit with the US audience), the song Young Americans is extremely groovy as well, with its anthem-like chorus hard to resist.

Here is my "DJ-friendly" drummed-up edit of it.

Vibes4YourSoul Mixes#31 - Disco, what else do you need to know?

 Classics, edits, enjoy!

Zig Zag - Stop Stop stop (Vibes4YourSoul Encore Edit)

Here is a DJ-friendly edit I just made of an overlooked pearl from afro/disco 70's band Zig Zag.

Can't get enough of these funky guitar lines and groovy french lyrics!

Taxie - Rock Don't Stop Ep (Eglo Records re-issue)

Since his first splendid deep-house releases as Floating Points, back in 2009, to his remarkable artistic management of Eglo label since then, or his always inspiring eclectic DJ Sets, Sam Shepherd has been ranking very high on my musical radar.

Still in a mission to share great soulful music around, here he comes with another delightful surprise through Eglo sister label Melodies: a re-mastered version of two overlooked late 70's disco/soul absolute gems from US band Taxie.

Simply enjoy the full streaming below!

Ned Doheny - To Prove My Love (Vibes4YourSoul Edit)

Here is a little edit I made of this classic 70's disco/rock song from American songwiter Ned Doheny.

I've been enjoying this song for a long time, and was looking to give it a nudisco's touch in a "DJ-friendly" format.
Hope you'll enjoy it, feedback welcomed!

Vibes4YourSoul Loves Edits#40 - Michael Jackson - Rock With You (The Reflex Revision)

It's always very tricky to play with Michael's legacy...but when a talented producer like The Reflex takes up the challenge, magic can be around the corner. I'm sure you'll find some in his absolutely fantastic remake of one of my top 3 MJ songs, Rock With You.

Vibes4YourSoul Loves Edits#36 - The Jones Girls - 2 Win U Back (Rayko Re-Edit)

Another massive treat from Spanish nudisco king Rayko, with this edit of The Jones Girls insanely funky classic 2 Win U Back.

The track is part of Rayko's latest EP on his always hot Rare Wiri label.

Vibes4YourSoul Loves Edits#25 - The Jones Girls - You're Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else (Alkalino Rework)

Classic disco cut among the classics, You're Gonna Make Me Love Somedy Else gets the slo-mo Alkalino re-looking and it surely gets groovy.

Another nice gift from the always prescient Munich-based DJ & producer !

And of course, the timeless original track :

V4YS Album Review - Henri-Pierre Noël - Piano (Reissue - Wah-Wah 45's)

Here is another nice discovery we owe to the currently red-hot Wah Wah 45s label.

Originally released in 1979 and famous mostly to hard-core jazz/funk vinyl collectors, Haitian pianist Henri-Pierre Noël's album Piano is a furious piece of 70's disco/jazz fusion with an exotic carribean rythmic flava.

Nicely re-mastered by the UK label with the addition of a previously unreleased vocal version of the explosive track Merci Bon Dieu, it is now re-issued and should rejoice a whole new generation of latin groove lovers.

Streaming of  several extracts below :

Vibes4YourSoul Loves Edits#10 - Ashford & Simpson - Don't Cost You Nothing (Leftside Wobble Edit)

Our edit of the week is one of the many amazing reworks regularly dropped  by Uk producer Leftside Wobble.

He recently edited Don' Cost You Nothing, which is my favorite disco track from legendary 70's duo Ashford & Simpson.

Groove to it (and dwnload it) on his Soundcloud page :

Original track :

Vibes4YourSoul Loves Edits#8 - Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover (Discobody Edit)

This week let's groove to one of my favorite Prince song, I Wanna Be Your Lover, edited by Greek DJ & producer Discobody. A serious edit-maker, I highly recommend you check out his Soundcloud page, full of amazing disco/funk/groove edits.

A longer intro, a few funky beats add-ins and vocals loops make this rework highly efficient !
