By now we should all be aware of the chameleon-like nature of
José James. Still, the singer will once again stun many fans with his most diverse album to date,
No Beginning, No End, out January 22nd on
Blue Note.

If I had the chance to discover early most of the songs of
No Beginning, No End through recent live shows (see our reviews

here), I have been truly moved by the delicacy of the final studio work. A true moment of grace, that makes this world a better place !

En 2008 son premier disque, The Dreamer, est rapidement devenu culte pour les amoureux de Nu-Jazz. En 2010 il surprit tout le monde à deux reprises. Tout d'abord grâce à son ovni nu-soul/hip-hop Blackmagic, puis avec For All We Know, recueil de classiques Jazz ré-interprétés avec le pianiste belge Jef Neve.
Aujourd'hui nous devrions tous savoir que José James est un véritable caméléon du micro. Pourtant le chanteur va encore certainement bluffer ses fans avec son dernier bijou an date, No Beginning, No End, qui sortira le 22 Janvier sur Blue Note.
Album le plus intime mais aussi le plus varié de sa discographie, No Beginning, No End met l'accent sur les mélodies et un format "chanson" assumé. Le disque a aussi été l'occasion pour José James de laisser libre cours à toutes ses envies, en invitant une pléiade de musiciens de talent comme l'incontournable pianiste Robert Glasper, l'infernal batteur Chris Dave, le bassiste vétéran Pino Palladino, où les lumineuses chanteuses Hindi Zahra et Emily King.
Ballades à l'accent folk (Come To My Door and Swor + Gun), chansons de jazz classieuses (Do You Feel, Bird Of Space), vibrations jazzy hip-hop (It's All Over Your Body, Trouble, Vanguard), la voix magique du chanteur se joue des styles...agissant comme un aimant enchanté au fil du disque. Si j'avais eu la chance de découvrir la plupart des compositions lors de ses récents concerts (reviews ici et ici), j'avoue avoir été ému par la délicatesse des versions studios. Un vrai moment de grâce !
